PLAYING WITH FIRE

CHAPTER 4

----------------------------------

Edith led us to a room. It was… interesting.

There is a pool with pegs sticking out everywhere, a kitchen, and what looked like a mini gym with cool robots in it.

“What should we do first, parkour or combat?”

“Um…” I said.

“Combat it is.” said Edith.

We went into the room with the bots. Edith went into a control room or something and activated the bots. 4 had red lights and 2 had green.

“The green ones are your team. The reds are going to attack you. Do not hesitate to destroy any in your path.” she said.

“Okay.” I said. “When do we-”

“KILL!” yelled Edith. The bots advanced on us.

“Uh, can we do parkour instead?” I say quickly.

“Wimps.” said Edith, shutting off the bots.

We went into the ‘pool’ room.

“We’ll start easy. Get to the other side without falling in the water. Speed is good. And try not to make noise.”

I made it across pretty easily. So did Alex.

“Good.” said Edith. “Next step.” she toggled a lever on the wall. The pegs in the water moved around.

I tried again with the moving pegs. I wobbled dangerously. I steadied myself and leapt to the next one. Well, I tried to.

I landed in the cold water with a splash.

“Why water?” I ask. Edith looks to the side.

“Um… we’re working on it.” she said. She went into the kitchen and came back with a towel. She handed it to me.

“Thanks,” I said.

“Alex, do you want a go?” she asked.

“Um, I’ll pass.”

“Okay.” she said. “Take 5, then I’ll show you the right way to fight.” She went into the kitchen.

We sat on the small sofa chairs. There was a long silence.

“Well… “ I broke the silence.”I officially suck at parkour.”

“Don’t worry,” said Alex. “I’ll probably be even worse.” I laughed.

4 Min. L8R

In the combat room, Edith was demonstrating how to ‘properly’ destroy an ambush of robots.

“When I give you the signal, press the button that anyone would really want to press.” she said.

“Okay…” I said, not sure what she meant.

MOMENTS L8R…

“Oh!” I said. There was a big red button that said “WARNING” on it.

Yeah, I really want to press it.

Thankfully, Edith gave ‘the signal’, which was just a nod.

The bots started moving forward. Edith just stood there. What was she doing?!

Then, at the last second…

*SWOOSH*

Edith finally revealed her weapon: a two-bladed ax.

And there’s more!

*THWANG*

There was a hole in the bot’s head where a bullet shot through.

Edith finished the last of the bots effortlessly. She looked at us.

“Uh…” she said. “It’s your turn.”

Uh oh.
